Speaking on the sidelines, K Meghachandra expressed concern over the matter and asserted that the crumbling of the retaining wall signified that quality was not maintained in construction of the highway.
People are hoping that development of highway by utilising huge amount of money so as to connect with Asian countries will surely enhance business activities in the region.
However, collapse of the retaining wall has laid bare the fact that officials concerned and technical experts did not pay proper attention to the construction of the highway.
Such incident is very unfortunate, he condemned.
Meghachandra further highlighted the need for recheclang the quality of other works being taken up along Trans Asian Highway.
When those constructing the highway are questioned, they will surely have readymade explanations.
However, such collapse occurred because of negligence of construction company, technical experts and authorities concerned, he alleged, while adding that the quality of the materials used in the construction of the road including sand, stones, cements and iron need to be rechecked.
Enquiring whether the state government does not have any right to check whether quality is being controlled in the construction of the highway or not, Meghachandra said that ministry concerned and highway authority should look into the matter at the earliest and ensure that construction of the highway is done as per specification.
