Vanamahotsav celebrated in Tml, Noney, Kak, Ccpur districts

The 73rd Vanamahotsav 2022 was on Friday celebrated in three locations of Tamenglong and Noney districts under Tamenglong Forest Division.
For Tamenglong sub division, it was celebrated at Tamenglong College with Tamenglong DFO Praveen Kumar Nigam, Tousem SDO Paul Nangsha and Tamenglong College, principal Dr N Daimei as chief guest, guest of honour and functional president.
Rainforest Club members, college faculty and non-teaching staff, college students and Tamenglong Forest Division staff also participated in a mass tree plantation drive.
At Tamei Sub Division HQ, Water Resources minister Awangbow Newmai, CO Tamei Battalion and Tamei Range Forest Officer Kh Johnson Singh attended the Vanamahotsav programme.
It was also celebrated at Oin-amlong village with a mass tree plantation programme led by Tousem Range Forest Officer S Khogen Singh and Oinamlong village authority members.
It may be mentioned that Tamenglong has the highest percentage of forest cover of about 90 per cent and the only district which is not affected by poppy cultivation in the state.
KAKCHING: As in other parts of the State, Tengnoupal Forest Division celebrated 73rd Vana Mahotsav (Festival of Forests) 2022 at Laiching Minou village, Tengnoupal district on Friday.
The programme was attended by chief conservator of forests Manipur VL Roui Kullai as chief guest and Tengnoupal Forest Division deputy conservator of forests Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee as president, while Tengnoupal deputy commissioner Mannuamching, SP B Gou Lianmang, Machi SDO Th Monoranjan and Laiching Minou village chief D Leirung were present as guests of honour.
Tengnoupal range forest officer Athokpam Ranabir, RO Headquarter Tipu Raj Toijam, RO Machi SR Marson Anal, RO Moreh Ngangom Nandabir, Tengnoupal district DLOs and villagers also attended the event.
The celebration was marked by plantation of around 1000 tree sapling in areas surrounding the Laiching Minou village playground and other parts of the village.
CCPUR: The 73rd District Level Van Mahotsav 2022 was on Friday celebrated at six different places under the Churachandpur Forest Division.
As part of the event, a tree plantation drive was carried out at Sijang village under Kangvai sub-division.
Esther Laltankim Serto, divisional forest officer Churachandpur, led the drive during which as many 500 tree saplings were planted DC CCpur Sharath Chandra Arroju, SP Shivanand Surve, conservator of forest Gaithoulu Thaimei, CO 1st IRB Lunkhomang Khongsai, additional DC Khaikhopau Ngaihte, AC to DC Jousanglur Zoute, DRDA project director Thienlaljoy Gangte, DFO Nirmala Chanu, assistant conservator of forests Khatkhanchin Samte, and range officers under Churachandpur Forest Division, deputy range officers, foresters, forest guards, STC BSF assistant commandants Gulshan Kumar and Rohit Kumar Bhatt, inspectors Praveen Negi, Sudeep Kumar and Anoop Kumar took part in the plantation of tree saplings of different varieties.
DC Sharath Chandra Arroju during his speech stressed the need for planting many more trees and spread awareness about it for sustainable development in line with the observance of Van Mahotsav.
He further said that it is not a good sign that trees are destroyed at Sijang area and called for an end to such practice, adding that the mass tree plantation was being organised in the area to regenerate the depleting forest cover.
The DC then said that all should know about the importance of planting more trees as preservation of forest will save us from doom.
Gaithoulu Thaimei, conservator of forest, said that Van Mahotsav is being celebrated across country in first week of July and during this period efforts should be made by stu dents and other stakeholders to plant as many trees as possible.
She further said that in line with the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the state government has taken steps to plant at least 75 lakh tree saplings by August, 2022 .
Esther Laltankim Serto, DFO, while stressing the importance of tree plantation said that mass tree plantations would be organised at Henglep, Sagang, Ccpur and Singngat during first week of July as part of the observance of Van Mahotsav and sought participation from all.
