Foundation laid for 5 sub-stations in Ukhrul

Power Minister Thorigam Biswajit Singh on Thursday laid foundation stone for construction of 33/11 KV sub-stations at Tusom, Chingai, Somdal, Kachai and Sinakeithei at Sinakeithei football ground in Ukhrul district.
The foundation stone was laid virtually from Sinakeithei and carried out as a part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav organised by Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL).
Minister Biswajit also inaugurated a government guest house at Sinakeithei constructed by Public Work Department at the same event.
Addressing the gathering, Biswajit stated that the government has been successful in bridging the gap between the hills and the valley in addition to launching projects for the womenfolk to earn decent income.
He highlighted various developmental programme taken up the government like Go to Hill, Go to Village, etc., for the welfare of the people.
The minister maintained that power is the key to industrialization and that the government is committed to provide uninterrupted quality power supply to the people.
He also stressed the need for developing the border areas and pointed out that plan for construction of the power sub stations at Tusom, Somdal and Kachai is aimed at bringing development in the border pockets.
The minister also appreciated efforts of officials or Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) and Manipur State power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) to ensure commencement of construction of all the five sub-stations within short notice.
Delivering key note address, MSPCL managing director N Sarat Singh described as historic day for Ukhrul district that five sub-stations would be constructed simultaneously.
Informing that the total cost of the projects is around Rs 60 crore, he said on completion of the projects quality power supply could be ensured in these areas.
The sub-station at Tusom will cater to consumers in Tusom and surrounding villages like Wahong, Challow, Kongai, Razia Khullen, Razai Khunou, etc., whereas Chingai sub-station will provide reliable power to Kuingai, Challou, Poi, Huishu, Kamasom Phungrei, Kalhang, Khuirei, Marem, Marangphung and Phungcham villages through a network of 11KV line.
The Somdal sub-station will supply electricity to the consumers in Somdal and the surrounding villages like Phungthar, Maichon, Huining, Tora, Champhung, Tanrui and Ngaimu.
The construction of the new 33/11 KV sub-station power supply at Kachai will cover its adjoining areas like Hoomi, Theiva, Tingshong, Huime and Washangpung among others.
The proposed 33/11 KV sub-station at Sinakeithei will be able to overcome the problems faced in supplying electricity to consumers in Sinakeithei and surrounding villages like Tingpibung, Dongsun, Leplen, Lhangjol, Mongyang, Pasong, etc., and will improve the voltage profile too.
Sarat also informed that the department would need to strengthen power bill collection and appealed to the people to clear bills on time.
The function was also attended by secretary (power) Dr Shailesh Kumar Chaurasia, MSPDCL MD Ng Subhachandra Singh, PWD (Building) chief engineer Rabindrakumar Singh, officials of both MSPCL and MSPDCL, village authority of Sinakeithei among others.
