Imphal, November 29 2024:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akojam has raised concern over the existence of an unofficial road passing through the campus of 57th Mountain Division of the Indian Army following the disappearance of a 56-year-old supervisor from the Leimakhong military garrison.
The missing man, a Meetei working with a contractor for the Military Engineering Services, was last seen on November 25, inside the military garrison.
Dr Bimol highlighted the issue on X, questioning how such a road came into existence within a military installation.
He urged defence minister Rajnath Singh to investigate the matter and take corrective measures.
Dr Bimol noted that the incident reflects poorly on the Army's security measures and risks further straining civil-military relations in the violence-hit state.
He also pointed to ongoing allegations of partisanship against both the armed forces and the police amid Manipur's ethnic tensions.
