Imphal, August 27 2022:
American Oncology Institute (AOI), which is one of the largest chains of cancer specialty hospital, organised a "One Hour for your lung" campaign across India to create awareness on lung cancer.
In a release, AOI informed that the campaign is aimed at encouraging the people to act for Lung Health.
AOI aligns this initiative with its main campaign SCAN, a campaign on World Lung Cancer Day, which explains the most common symptoms of lung cancer and educates people across the country.
It informed that India is likely to witness over seven-fold rise in lung cancer cases by 2025 compared to the situation a decade ago as researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have reported.
Nearly 45 per cent of lung cancer patients are diagnosed at a time when cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
Misdiagnosis is the major problem in detecting the disease at an early stage as the symptoms are often mistaken as those of pulmonary tuberculosis, it added.
It further informed that AOI organised breathing exercises by an expert yoga trainer, a free pulmonary function test, and a health talk by expert on lung health during the event with 30 personals of Manipur Traffic Police, while adding that, the campaign was also carried out in over states in the form of outdoor and other in-house advertising.
The campaign is designed to encourage and motivate people to be aware of the early symptoms and get screened for early detection of lung cancer, it said.
AOI is committed to offering best-in-class clinical expertise, technological superiority and service excellence for patients in South Asia.
