Keeping MHRC in dark is violation of human rights: Chaoba

A three-day long training programme on Human Rights, which is being organized by Centre for Human Rights & Duties Education, Manipur University began from yesterday at the conference hall of the centre.
The inaugural function was attended by Th Chaoba, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh and Dr Sureshkumar, Co-ordinator of Centre for Human Rights & Duties Education as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Prof N Lokendra, Registrar of MU; Prof E Bijoykumar, Dean of School of Social Sciences, MU and Prof RK Hemkumar, MU Dean of Students' Welfare were also present at the function as Guests of Honor.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Chaoba said that the BJP Manipur Pradesh had urged the Central Government to revive Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which is instrumental for looking after human rights violation in the State at the earliest.
He stated that people have been going through intense hardships in trying to seek assistance regarding human rights violation since MHRC stopped functioning three years ago and pointed out that the act of the government in keeping the MHRC in dark is itself violation of human rights.
Exuding confidence that the Central Government will instruct the State government to revive the commission soon, Chaoba also pledged that BJP Manipur Pradesh will urge the Central Government to provide all necessary infrastructure and facilities in Manipur University.
