Imphal, May 24 2021:
Maintaining that having a separate health minister could help in effective implementation of the initiatives taken up by the government for fighting the Covid-19 pandemic significantly, Shiv Sena Manipur Unit has appealed to the chief minister to make one of his MLAs as the health minister.
Addressing a press meet at the party office here on Monday, Shiv Sena state president M Tombi said that the CM is leading the fight against Covid-19 .
Despite the relentless efforts, the CM seems unable to take total command in this war and as such inducting one of the MLAs as the health minister (general) can strengthen the fight significantly.
Many near and dear ones have died in the pandemic and daily fatality count is still in double digit.
The situation needs collective effort of all sections of the society, he said.
The Covid related restrictions have put on halt economic activities of several people, especially those in containment zones are facing severe hardships as they are not allowed to come out even to their gates, Tombi said, and appealed to the government to provide rations to these families for certain period of time.
On the other hand, he said, making transfer and posting of CMOs amid the heat of the pandemic is also hampering the fight against the virus as people often face difficulties in finding the right contact number to communicate with their respective CMOs.
He appealed to the government to enforce strict SOP and regulate a fixed rate for Covid treatment in private hospitals in order to minimise the financial burden of patients.
