Charhajar house, NMI complex torched

An abandoned house at Charhajar under Kangpokpi district has been burnt down by suspected Kuki militants after looting the house, on Monday.
Owner of the house Hem - chandra Thoudam informed The People's Chronicle that soon after the communal violence broke out on May 3 last all the Meiteis settling in Charhajar were rescued and evacuated from the area by AR personnel and made to stay at the AR camp.
Later they were shifted to the relief camp opened at Sekmai.
In the vio-lence, eight houses and one saw mill belonging to the Meitei community were burnt down with exception of his house.
However, when he contact-ed his Nepali neighbour, he was told that some armed Kuki mil-itants came to his house some days back, broke the key of the house and took photographs and left.
Around 15 armed Kuki militants again showed up in a truck on Monday and took away all the properties from the house.
They returned back in the evening and set the house on fire, he said.
In another incident, sus-pected Kuki armed militants set ablaze the Manipur Moun-taineering Institute Complex run by Manipur Mountaineer-ing and Trekking Association (MMTA) at Lamdan under Chu-rachandpur district on Tuesday around 8pm.As there is suspicion that the complex might be damaged in connection with the eth-nic clash, CRPF was deployed in the area for protecting the complex.
However, CRPF unit had to move to a place in Churachandpur where there was conflict and it has to be protected by another company of CRPF.
But, before the de-ployment of the company, the suspected militants destroyed the complex.
