Imphal, March 22 2015: The Civil Engineering Department, National Institute of Technology, Manipur today organised a one day workshop on 'Water and Sustainable Development' .

MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, Professor V Subramanian, Emeritus fellow JNU, Delhi and Professor Subashisa Dutta, Head, Civil Engineering Department, IIT Guwahati attended the workshop as the chief guest, guest of honour and special guest respectively.

Dr Sarungbam Birendra, patron and Director of NIT, Manipur presided over the workshop while Dr P Albino Kumar, head, Civil Engineering Department, NIT Manipur convened the programme.

The highlights of the programme included technical talks by eminent speakers on issues related to water sector, multiscale hydro-morphological processes in Brahmaputra river using advanced geospatial technologies, design of grey water .

Dr Ng Bijoy highlighted the importance of cleaning Nambul river and Wysen Maril drain.

A panel discussion and demonstration of water laboratory of NIT, Manipur followed.
