NEFIS extends solidarity to Sri Lankan protesters

On the 100th day of protest against the Sri Lankan government at Galle Face Green in Colombo, North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) extended its support to peoples movement and called for institutionalisation of people's collective power in the country.
In a release, NEFIS member Thok-chom Yaiphalembi Chanu said NEFIS participated in a Solidarity Meet at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Sunday in support to the ongoing Sri Lankan people's movement.
The meet was organised to mark the 100th day of historic Galle Face Protest in Colombo, which has spearheaded the ' Janatha Aragalaya' or people'struggle in sri Lanka.
Solidarity meets were also organised by NEFIS in Manipur and Assam, said the member.
"The protest which started in Sri Lanka against the current political and economic regime has completely
exposed the phenomenon which can be observed worldwide.
It should be noted that economic predicament and political chicanery is a phenomenon prevalent across the world and people's movements have arisen against the dominant economic classes and the ruling elites," it said.
Sri Lankans' struggle is an important link in the chain of such struggles around the globe.
As such, it symbolises people's power to dismantle the dominant anti-people political and economic structures and stands as inspiration for people's movements worldwide for a society based on equality and social justice, added the release.
NEFIS expressed its solidarity with the struggling people of Sri Lanka and their demands that the acting President Ranil Wickremes inghe be immediately ousted and people's collective power which has emerged during the present struggle be institutionalised in the form of People's Assemblies.
