Training / awareness prog held

Under its Manos Unidas Project, Diocesan Social Service Society (DSSS), Mantripukhri organised the second training-cum-awareness programme for farmers at Leipung Tampak village in Chandel district on Friday.
In a release, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Chandel head Dr A Ameeta Devi conveyed that during the programme, ICAR-KVK, Chandel CTO (SWCE) Dr Kangjam Sonamani Singh spoke on various aspects of soil and water conservation which are integral parts for sustainable natural resources management and sustainable agriculture.
Dr Sonamani urged the participating farmers to adopt scientific farming technologies for improving crop production and to achieve long-term higher farm productivity and farm income under climate variability.
According to the release, harmful effects of paddy straw burning were also discussed in detail along with reuse and recycling of paddy straw in vermicomposting, mushroom cultivation and also for mulching.
The release mentioned that DSSS Manos Unidas Project project manager Paul Keivom explained in detail the intricacies of accounting and book keeping for the record maintenance of the beneficiaries.
He encouraged the farmers to maintain utmost transparency in book keeping for taking wise decisions on expenditure, planning investments and controlling financial decisions.
The training-cum-awareness programme was followed by an interactive session attended by 47 farmers, it added.
