Imphal, June 17 2013:
Expressing deep concern over increasing crime against women in Manipur, womenfolk and volunteers of Domestic Violence Survival Forum (DVSF) staged a sit-in at Hatta Golapati in Imphal West on Monday.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, DVSF volunteer A Thoibi Devi said crime against women in the state has alarmingly increased and accused the Government of not taking enough steps to tackle it.
She also alleged that the three women MLAs in the state are still hesitant to take any part to help sort out the serious problem because they are apathetic towards the fair sex.
Thoibi said DVSF demands the state Government to discuss the issue in the current State Assembly session and pass a Bill to deal with it.
Later, Haji Anafad, General Secretary of United Hatta Golapati Development Council announced that the Council will launch a drive against non-residents in Hatta area soon with the help of police.
