MCPCR meets food poisoning patients

A team of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) on Thursday visited Paomata PHC and Tungjoi PHSC in Senapati district to enquire about the health conditions of the patients suspected of food poisoning after consuming chutney dish prepared with fermented fish at a birthday party.
A two-member team of the commission namely L Megharaj and Jotindra met the chief medical officer of the district hospital before they visited the patients to enquire about their condition.
As per information from Dr Helen, the patients are stable.
The number of patients being treated at the hospital is 92, out of which 24 are children, said a Commission release.
It also informed that the food safety department has already collected report about incident stating that two families purchased 250 gm each of fermented fish from the same shop at Sekmai bazar.
The first family, the host of the birthday party, used the fermented fish to prepare 'iromba', which was served to about 170 people attending the celebration on September 12 around 3.30 pm.
According to the medical officer of PHC Paomata, 57 patients were admitted to the PHC and another 35 patients admitted at Tungjoi Sub Centre around 12.30 pm on September 13, 2022.Samples bearing code number/serial numbers FSI/7/2_88 and FSO/7/2_89 were collected from the affected site and sent them to the state food testing laboratory, Medical Directorate, Imphal, Manipur via letter number 1/FS( Sept)/SUR/20 dated 14/9/2022, it continued.
All medicine inputs have been given to all patients, and all are now stable.
Out of the total patients admitted at the two health centres, 55 have been discharged, and there are now only two minors undergoing treatment at the two centres.
All the doctors of the two villages, the village authorities, and the local and zonal education officer of the district appreciated the visit of the MCPCR team.
The chairperson and member of the Child Welfare Committee, Senapati, accompanied the team, the release added.
