State receiving highest cultural grants: Director

Manipur tops the list among the states in terms of receiving highest number of grants and sponsorships related to culture, said Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) director Pukhrambam Bilash Singh.
Speaking as the chief guest of the State Level Pung Cholom Festival' organised by Sangeet Kala Sangam, Khurai under the Cultural Function Grant scheme of the Ministry of Culture at the auditorium of Khurai Lamlong Bazar, Imphal East on Monday, Bilash disclosed that different cultural institutions in the state are receiving funds and sponsorships under various schemes/programmes of the Ministry of Culture, Sangeet Natak Akademi and North Eastern Council (NEC), making Manipur the top state receiving highest number of grants across the country.
Such generosity of the minister is something to cherish for Manipur, he said and called upon the cultural institutions to strife for upholding the trust.
He said that while the cultural institutions of the state are sincere and abide the guidelines and regulations, their sincerity must not be on the basis of the funding or sponsorships.
Bilash then urged all not to forget the teachings of the teachers, be it with regard to Pung, Cholom or any other.
Presided over by Sangeet Kala Sangam, Khurai president N Babuton Singh, the function was attended by JNMDA ex-pradhan guru/Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Arambam Tombinou as guest of honour.
As part of the event, floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Pung guru Chingangbam Angou Singh.
In all, six troupes from different districts presented Pung Cholom performances.
