Code of conduct for college poll effected

Monitoring Cell of the College Students' Union Election, 2024-25 declared that the model code of conduct for the upcoming college students' union election, 2024-25 scheduled for January 16, has been affected immediately from Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons at International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) Office located at Keishampat, convenor of the monitoring cell Moirangthem Lakshman said that the monitoring cell was formed by six students' bodies in 2011 with the objective of ensuring a free and fair college students' union election.
He further appealed to the students to abide the model code of conduct for.
the upcoming election.
As the code of conduct for the election has been effected, candidates are not allowed to campaign outside their respective colleges.
Candidates can paste an A3 poster inside their respective colleges to help the voting students in identifying them.
However, any form of card, poster, serving as a form of identifying the candidates cannot be distributed or related activities carried out.
Election campaigns at the residence of voters and picking up of voters from their homes are restricted, he declared.
Any election related activities including feast, tea party or distribution of food items are strictly prohibited, he continued, while also adding that organising study tour, cinema and charity show are also not allowed.
"Only the students of their respective college should be allowed to campaign.
Moreover, open debate and discussion should be conducted so that voters can elect rightful candidates," he added.
"Candidates and students are restricted from involving in activities which could lead to violence; any form of presenting gifts or money are not allowed; students who want to contest the polls can submit a request in writing to represent a single student body; members of the Monitoring cell of College Students' Union Election and that of the organisation concerned cannot be the candidate, inner agent, proposer, seconder and counting agent," he elaborated, while informing that candidates are also barred from spending the nights at the offices of student bodies until the elections are over.
Any candidate found violating the aforementioned code of conduct will be asked to drop their candidature by the Monitoring Cell.
If a candidate is found to have won the election while violating the code of conduct, he/she will be asked to resign immediately, he cautioned.
