Union MoS RK Ranjan inspects CAU facilities

Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan inspected central farm and college of food technology of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Lamphelpat on Friday and expressed his desire for increasing production of indigenous crops while interacting with vice chancellor and faculties of the varsity.
CAU vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra, director of instructions Dr S Basanta, director of extension Dr Ph Sanjit Sharma, dean of college of food technology Dr Ng Jaykumar, dean of college of agriculture professor Indira Sarangthem and other officials and staff of the varsity accompanied the union minister during the inspection.
RK Ranjan told media persons on the sidelines of his visit that experts of the university need comprehensive study on soil fertility, earth levelling, and climatic conditions as well as crops to be planted in a particular district when the 'one district, one crop' programme is initiated.
Apart from this, discussion on indigenous cultivation system in the North East should be held and en courage the farmers, he said, and appealed to CAU experts to initiate steps to increase production of local chilli variety commonly known as Meitei Morok as this could reduce import of dry chilli from Bengal.
He also appealed to CAU experts to bring out profile of biochemical and nutrients of indigenous crops including Meitei Morok.
