Imphal, September 12 2024:
In response to recent remarks by environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam, the Governor's Secretariat on Thursday issued a detailed clarification regarding the Governor's itinerary.
In a statement, Raj Bhavan reminded that as Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya serves as full-fledged Governor of Assam while also holding additional charge of Manipur; his duties involve extensive travel, including trips outside these states for important official meetings and engagements.
Maintaining that the Gov-ernor's schedule includes not only frequent travel within these states but also participation in crucial meetings outside the region, the statement mentioned that the Governor was in Imphal until July 31 and after a brief visit to Delhi, returned on August 7, before departing for Guwahati on August 11 .
During his time in Imphal, he engaged with civil and military officials, convened security meeting while also addressing student organisations to discuss measures for festering peace.
Asserting that the Governor's visit to Guwahati is for important official commitments', the statement said that despite the demands of his role in Assam, he has spent significant time in Imphal due to the current turmoil, often prioritising Manipur over his obligations in Assam.
He plans to return to Manipur soon to continue overseeing the situation.
The Secretariat criticised Licypriya's suggestion that the Governor is planning to "run away", describing it as an unfortunate and unfounded claim.
