Eat Right Walkathon, Eat Right fairs held across state

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in connection with the celebration of 75th year of India's Independence, district units of Food Safety Administration (FSA) and district administrations organised "Eat Right Walkathon and Eat Right Mela" on Ihursday.
The events were organised to promote the theme "Eat Safe, Eat Healthy and Eat Sustainable" under the direction of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Additional Food Safety Com-missioner/Director of Health Services.
Different stalls of food items ranging from packed food to fresh vegetables were displayed at the fair venues by different departments and district level SHGs.
In Chandel district, FSA Chandel in collaboration with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) and District Agriculture Office organised "Eat Right Walkathon and Eat Right Mela" and District Agriculture Fair, 2022 on Thursday at Mini Secretariat multi-purpose hall.
As part of the programme, Eat Right Walkathon was flagged off from Indoor stadium, Japhou Bazar by Chandel DC Mayanglambam Rajkumar in the presence of CMO Dr Serthani Serbum, ADC Md Firoj Khan and Public Health Laboratory state food analyst (SFA) Lamphel Ch Sanajaoba Meitei.
During the function, SFA Sanajaoba interacted with the audience especially the student participants about safe and hygienic food.
In Bishnupur district, the district administration organised a walkathon under Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign to inspire the denizens hoist national flag at their homes.
Students in large numbers with tricolour in their hand marched from Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School led by Bishnupur DC Lourembam Bikram, SP N Herojit Meitei, district officials and NYK volunteers.
Addressing the gathering at INA Memorial Complex in Moirang, the culmination point of the walkathon, DC Bikram highlighted that HGT campaign is to instil sense of patriotism among the people and urged the gathering to hoist the National Flag from August 13 to 15.Bishnupur Zone IV ZEO also organised a painting, slogan writing and quiz competitions for classes VIII to XII as part of the campaign.
As many as 700 students from 35 schools participated in the competitions.
'Eat Right' walkathon and mela was also held at Kakching Mayai Leikai multipurpose community hall by Kakching FSA while a mass rally flagged off by Kakching additional deputy commissioner A Adahrii Maheo was taken out from Irabot Park, Kakching Bazaar till the multipurpose community hall.
In his speech, Adahrii said that the theme 'Eat safe, Eat healthy and Eat sustainably' is very relevant in the present society.
"Eating the right food is highly essential for everyone's health.
There are many vendors selling food without proper packaging in the market.
Everyone needs to check the manufacturing and expiry date while buying food from the market or any food business operators", stressed the ADC.
He then advised the food safety department to carry out checking so that foods sold in the market are safe to consume.
Whether Food Business Operators have proper licence or valid licence should be checked, the ADC added.
In his keynote address, Kakching FSA designated officer Y Satyajeet Singh said that citizens should plan and choose what is good for health while buying from the market.
About 100 students from Class VI to VIII and IX & X took part in a painting competition organised as part of the event while 23 stalls consisting of Food Business Operators and line department were also opened at the venue of the fair.
The gathering was also enthralled by Yoga demonstration by E Premkumar Singh and his party, presentation of Herbal life by Basanta Nutrition Club, Kakching Khunyai and Pena Cholom performed by Poirei Enat Pena Ashei Lup, Heirok.
As part of the programme, Sangai Youth Tobacco Free & Educational Organisation managing director & senior advisor Dr S Bimola Kumari Devi, co-founder & president of the organisation Premjit Thokchom and Thongsuanmung Vualnam spoke on various topics as resource persons.
The function was attended by Kakching CMO Dr Th Rajen Singh as president while ZEO Yengkhom Achouba Singh and Senior Citizen Forum, Kakching president Nongmaithem Nimai Singh were guests of honour.
