The populace of remote village of Samulamlan in Churachandpur distict of Manipur has been suffering hardship for more than two decades since the Samulamlan TD Block was shifted to the district headquarters.
Samulamlan village has been deprived of various Central sponsored schemes with the exception of PDS items and MGNREGS for a long time after the TD Block was moved to the district headquarters, 75-year-old M Lairamjao, advisor, Samulamlan Development Committee told reporters on Monday.
He said Samulamlan TD Block was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Manipur Rishang Keishing in 1988 however it was moved to Churachandpur district headquarters by the Government after functioning about two months citing security reasons.
He alleged that some people are mischievously taking all the benefits of the villagers.
Lairamjao said the students in the village have to face a lot of difficulties while taking tribal certificates, domiciles and other documents by travelling inaccessible roads to reach the district headquarters.
There are over 200 beneficiaries of Old Age Pension in the village, but they often have to forego it because of the awkward situation they have to encounter while seeking forms to get the benefit, he said.
However, he said the state Government under Manipur Development Society (MDS) has been developing infrastructures inside the Samulamlan TD Block complex at the cost of Rs 7 crore.
New buildings of SDO/BDO office, staff quarters, civil supply godown, police barrack and bank are now under construction in the complex and 80 percent of the works have been completed as of now, Lairamjao said.
