Imphal, July 11 2024:
Imphal West deputy commissioner/district magistrate has issued a directive for removal of unauthorised structures along several critical water channels and rivers.
The order targets unauthorised constructions of houses, shops, sheds and water pump installations or other structures on permanent basis that have obstructed natural water flow along rivers and channels including Waisel Maril, Turel Amanbi (from Singjamei to Langthabal), Naga Turel, Chandranadi and Mera Khong, all within Imphal West district.
The directive, issued under the authority of the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1978 and other relevant statutes, mandates the eviction of encroachers from government Khas lands and state-owned areas adjacent to national highways, state roads, inter village roads (IVRs) and drainage systems.
Encroachers have been instructed to vacate the premises by July 21, failing which removal operations will be conducted without further notice.
The order also pointed out the urgency of the eviction to prevent further flooding in localities and to safeguard the integrity of riverbanks.
Costs associated with dismantling and removal of illegal structures will be borne by the encroachers.
