Imphal, August 09 2022:
Boycotting India's Independence Day celebration in Manipur, the armed group, National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) has imposed general strike on August 15 from 1 am to 4 pm.
The general strike, however, will not cover movement relating to water and electricity supply, medical and media, NRFM said in a statement, adding that it is the bounden duty of the entire people of Manipur to restrict India's Independence Day celebration in Manipur as they are living under India's subjugation since 1949.Meanwhile, ahead of the Patriots' Day observance on August 13, the armed Socialist Revolutionary Party (SOREPA), Kangleipak has paid its highest tribute to forefathers of the land who laid down their lives while defending Manipur (Kangleipak)'s sovereignty and also declared imposition of general strike on August 15 from 4 am to 6 pm to boycott of India's Independence Day celebration in Manipur (Kangleipak).
The general strike, however, will not cover movement relating to medical, water and electricity, fire and religious ceremonies, said a statement of SOREPA, which also endorsed general strike, boycott, total shutdown called by other revolutionary organisations of WESEA region on August 15.According to the statement issued by its publicity secretary MC Yaiphabi, August 13 is Patriots' Day for Manipur and the day is remembered by every freedom loving people of the land every year by honouring all those who laid down their lives while trying to defend the nation.
While extending revolutionary salute to all the brave sons of the land who laid their lives for the nation like Koireng, Ipu-Thangal, Chongtha Mia, Chinglensana, Chirai-Thangal and other unidentified martyrs, SOREPA also paid its highest regard to martyred revolutionaries who fought against India to restore Manipur's sovereignty.
The outfit maintained that Manipur attained freedom from the British Protectorate on August 14, 1947 but India annexed Manipur on October 15,1949 and since then many revolutionaries who fought against India to restore Manipur's sovereign status have attained martyrdom.
In fact, Patriots' Day on August 13 is being observed in Manipur every year to instil the spirit of patriotism among younger generation by remembering the brave sons of the soil who laid down their lives while defending the nation and also to develop a new independent society by remembering the patriots.
However, India is creating misunderstanding among people of Manipur on Patriots' Day observance by linking patriots of Manipur to India's freedom movement and terming the patriots as those who laid down their lives during India's freedom movement.
Apart from this, India has been wrongly linking the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 to India's freedom movement though it was fought to defend Manipur from British colonial expansion, the outfit said and strongly called for observing Patriots' Day in its true spirit with complete acknowledgement of history.
Global people now fully acknowledge how India forcibly annexed Manipur in 1949 after the then King Bodhcharidra was forced to ink on the merger document at Shillong, the SOREPA statement said, adding that India violated all UN norms and occupied Manipur/Kangleipak.
While alleging that India openly endorses colonialism, imperialism and 'crime against humanity' in Manipur and WESEA region in complete violation of UN norms, the SOREPA statement said that people of Manipur/Kangleipak and WESEA region have no reason to join India's Independence Day on August 15 and hoisting Indian tri colour flag on the day as part of 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign in the region will be an open challenge to freedom of the people of Manipur and WESEA region.
The outfit then called for restricting activities and programmes related with India's Independence Day celebration on August 15 in Manipur/Kangleipak and WESEA region.
It then appealed to people to stand solidly for independence of Manipur/Kangleipak collectively and never to fall into India's trap.
