Govt urged to complete Bailey bridge

People of Hayel Hangul have government authorities concerned to complete the construction of the Bailey bridge over Sekmai river near Sekmaijin Bazar at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting progress of work of the bridge construction on Wednesday along with the locals, Hayel Hangul Gram Panchayat Ward No 7/8 member MV Saheerdur Rahaman recounted that the bridge that connected Sekmaijin Bazar and Irong via Hangul was dismantled 6-7 months ago for construction of a new structure.
While pointing out that prior to dismantling of the old bridge, the locals had asked authority concerned to complete the new construction at the earliest possible to which the executive engineer concerned assured completion of the same within 45 days.
Saheerdur mentioned as construction of the new bridge remained incomplete within the specified time, the aggrieved locals approached the contractor about two months back with the latter reassuring that the work will be completed within 25 days.
While pointing out that there is no sign of completing the project as only a handful of labourers are being engaged that too without any construction materials visible near the worksite, the ward member continued that the bridge is the lifeline of 6-7000 people.
The authorities concerned also declined proposal to construct a temporary diversion bridge stating that the work order had no provision for it, following which the locals constructed a wooden bridge for crossing the river, he narrated, while adding that the temporary bridge too has gone under water due to rise in the water level.
Hayel Hangul GP upa-pradhan Md Rafijuddin, ward members, Hangul Muslim Youth Club, Hangul Social Youth Action Committee, Ngakhapat Youth Development Association, Jamiat-ul-Ulema Hangul members among others were also present during the inspection.
