Imphal, September 08 2024:
Meira Paibi activists from Kwakeithel and surrounding areas took out a torch rally from Kwakeithel to Keishampat on Sunday evening, protesting against any attempt to erase Manipur.
The torch rally began from Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall and continued towards Keishampat Junction.
The protestors shouted slogans such as "Long live Manipur", "Manipur's territorial integrity cannot be broken", "Manipur cannot be erased", "Remove security advisor and DGP", "Stop Kuki-Zo terrorists from attacking Meetei civilians", "No to search operation in the valley", "No arrest of village volunteers", and "Eliminate Kuki-Zo terrorists" .
As the rally inched towards Keishampat Junction, a large number of police personnel, who were already deployed at the spot, intercepted the same, resulting in a standoff between the Meira Paibis and the police.
The protestors broke through the police barricade and moved forward, which prompted the police to fire tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Speaking on the Sidelines of the rally, one S Rita pointed out that Kuki-Zo terrorists have been terrorising the state for more than a year.
Despite the frequent attacks including drone bombings and rocket attacks against civilians by the Kuki-Zo terrorists, which is basically an act of attacking and trying to destroy a country, both the central and state governments are yet to take up any effective action in the matter, making it clear that the main goal is to completely erase Manipur.
Nonetheless, the people will continue to defend against any threat to disintegrate and destroy the land left behind the forefat hers, she affirmed.
