Imphal, May 08 2024:
The eGov Foundation, Manipur in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) on Wednesday commemorated one year of critical care services rendered by the 10-Bedded ICU Project Manipur in the state.
JNIMS, which acts as a tele ICU Hub operating in all the 16 districts of the state with 10-bed set up in every district, has been actively working in all the districts except in Moreh under Tengnoupal district due to the present humanitarian crisis besieging the state.
So far, 3313 patients needing critical care have been treated under the project with JNIMS making significant contributions to this effort.
Speaking at the commemorative function held at JNIMS Tele ICU Hub, JNIMS director Prof L Deben expressed satisfaction that the 10-bedded ICU Project launched on a war footing, is able to benefit patients in need of intense healthcare service.
He also said that despite availability of equipment mandatory for ICU facilities, there is a shortage of skilled personnel.
As there are enough experts at JNIMS, which is a tertiary hospital, the institute is serving as an ICU hub and collaborating with doctors and nurses at satellite locations to ensure continuous service.
Stating that over 3000 patients needing critical care have benefitted from the project due to support of doctors, nurses and staff, Prof Deben said that as specialist doctors of JNIMS have been assisting doctors at the satellite locations, the collective effort will be able to provide benefits to the people.
The director also commended support of the central and state governments along with the eGov Foundation along with informing that the project will be providing facilities to the people for treatment of cancer in the state itself without needing to go to Mumbai or elsewhere.
Let us collective work to ensure that tele ICU serves the people of the state in future too, he exhorted.
Prof Deben further stated that apart from the project benefitting over 3000 critically ill patients with the support and dedication of doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS, specialist doctors are conducting training sessions for medical professionals at the satellite locations to bring significant positive changes in the health care system of the state.
The function was also attended by 10-Bedded ICU nodal officer Dr Hemanta, JNIMS medical superintendent Prof Kh Lokeshwar Singh, dean, head of various departments, doctors, nurse and representatives of eGov Foundation.
