Kakching, May 08 2022:
The Hospital Management Committee of Community Health Centre (CHC) Wangoo Laipham along with the people of the area on Sunday staged a protest over the shortage of doctors and staff in the CHC, while cautioning of shutting down the hospital if the requisite medical personnel are not dispatched to the CHC by May 15.Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Committee representative Th Dhamen recounted that the CHC was upgraded from PHC by the then health minister L Jayantakumar in 2018, but failed to post the requisite number of doctors necessary for even a PHC.
Despite multiple requests to the CMO and the Health Director, no action has been taken up till date.
Although the hospital records show the appointment of the doctors, they have been utilised at other locations, thereby inconveniencing the people of the area.
Dhamen then urged for removal of the staff concerned from MGEL if the hospital exist for namesake only.
Meanwhile, a nearby resident conveyed that although the hospital is proclaimed to be open 24/7, many emergency cases have to go somewhere else or face difficulty due to the absence of a doctor.
