Committee decries quarrying without land owner's permission

Hyderabad based construction company, Keystone Infra Private Limited, engaged in construction of Joujangtek-Rengpang stretch of Tongjei Maril or Old Cachar road has been accused of quarrying stone and sands from a field belonging to a Longsai Tubung villager without the knowledge and permission of the owner.
Addressing a press meet today at Longsai Tubung, Poulumdai Kamei, chairman of Social Reformation Committee said that the body is against the quarrying of sand and stone from a field without the permission of the owner.
He said that around 100 truck loads of sand and stone were quarried from the particular field belonging to one Pamei Pouhualung without his knowledge and permission.
As per the Rongmei customary law, a villager has the right to enjoy the produces of his field or land as long as he lives in the village.
As such, the trucks and other machines belonging to the Keystone Infra Pvt Ltd would not be allowed to cross Longsai village until the company comes to term with the land owner, he said.
The Committee would not be held responsible for any further outcome in this regard, he warned.
Meanwhile, a one-day mass awareness programme was organised by the Social Reformation Committee under the theme 'Reformation' .
The committee was formed on March 29 last to keep vigil on various development initiatives.
Speaking at the occasion, Poulumdai Kamei said that there is no single teacher in the village's school.
It is also not known to them if there is an ASHA worker in the area.
He said that the awareness programme was organised to sensitise the villagers on various projects which have been allegedly monopolised by the village chief.
