Imphal, January 07 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) secretary and Naoriya Pakhanglakpa intending candidate Dr S Manaoton has urged the prime Minister and other union ministers of BJP to make their visits to the state meaningful by addressing the key issues of the state, instead of treating it as a time to praise their party without any basis.
He made the statement during the inauguration function of an Election Office in Hiyangthang Maning Makha Leikai 21/47 on Friday.
Dr S Manaoton remarked that instead of addressing the various issues plaguing the state such as ILP, AFSPA, St demand, etc., and announcing attractive development packages for the state, the PM and the other Union Ministers are visiting the state as if they are on a tour.
By failing to specify the agenda of their visit, the people ;eould only regard the ministers as a joke, he said, while advising the ministers to treat their visits to the state as a way of enhancing their images in the minds of the people.
Recalling that the then PM Manmohan Singh saw to the removal of Assam Rifles from Kangla and gave permission to repeal AFSPA from 7 assembly segments during his visit to the state; the MPCC secretary compared PM Modi's recent visit to Punjab, wherein he was forced to return after the farmers boycotted his visit.
This indicates how much the people in the country resent the PM, he remarked, while adding that the same could happen in Manipur as well.
Dr S Manaoton continued: "Election is the biggest democratic exercise for electing the right representatives.
But in Manipur, it has become an onslaught of poll violence, some of which have resulted in casualties.
People of the state should understand the underlining meaning behind someone's announcement of giving Rs 10 -20 lakh compensations to student Rohit who was killed in a poll violence incident in Heirok and to those who suffered damages.
"However, instead of putting an end to poll violence, the ruling BJP government is more enthusiastic about showing its prowess.
Thus, voters should carefully consider and elect their representatives with long-term vision, instead of placing blind faith on the ruling BJP government which is more in publicity and less governance," Dr Manaoton said and urged the people of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa to elect an INC candidate as its representative, while adding that he would uphold the trust of the denizens at all times.
The inaugural function was attended by Naoriya pakhanglakpa Block Congress Committee president Nandeibam Sangoijao, 21/47 Election Committee president Mutum Tomba, advisor Sagolsem Khamba, Sarangthem Ibotombi and supporters.
