Imphal, October 06 2021:
Communist Party of India (CPI), during its National Council meeting, has strongly condemned the abduction and subsequent murder of Athuan Abonmai and called upon the state authorities to apprehend the culprits responsible and award befitting punishment.
Addressing a press meet held at Irawat Bhawan here Wednesday, CPI-MSC state secretary L Sotinkumar informed that during the National Council meeting of CPI held in Delhi from October 2 to 4, the abduction and subsequent murder of Athuan Abonmai was strongly condemned.
The Council then demanded the authority concerned to look into the matter, apprehend the culprits responsible and award befitting punishment as soon as possible.
Sotinkumar continued that since the BJP government came to power, the integrity of state has been challenged greatly.
As long as the BJP government stays in power, the lives of the people are at risk.
Athuan Abonmai's death is a grim reminder of the threat to the unity and the integrity of the state.
The demand of the people that the peace talk between the Union Government and the NSCN-IM should not affect the territorial integrity of the state was also brought up during the National Council meeting, he conveyed.
"CPI national leaders, on behalf of the state, urged to exert pressure upon the PM and the Home Minister to thoroughly investigate the murder of Abonmai and punish the culprits; to remove all NSCN-IM camps in the state, and to establish a highway protection force to put a stop to illegal taxation/extortion activities along the national highways and reduce the price of goods," Sotinkumar further conveyed.
The state secretary then informed that CPI National Congress-2022, which was postponed due to Covid-19, is scheduled to be held in UP from October 14 to 18.Ahead of the National Congress, card renewals of party membership of states and union territories will be carried out along with conduct of local and district-level conferences.
In Manipur, the above activities will be carried out in around 400 branches, he added.
Stating that the left democratic secular forces will unite to bring about a new government other than the BJP government in the upcoming general elections in five states; Sotinkumar said that CPI will play a huge role in this regard, adding that the BJP government was unable to return to power in the recent polls in 5 states except Assam, all due to the work of left forces.
Thus, BJP will be surely defeated in the upcoming Assembly polls in the 5 states including Manipur, he remarked.
Meanwhile, with regard to the campaign launched by the party on October 4 in connection with the killing of several farmers in Lakhimpur incident in UP, the campaign will continue till October 11, he informed and appealed to the farmers of Manipur to take part in the campaign which is being launched against the atrocities committed upon the farmers by the NDA government.
