Kakching, September 06 2024:
All Kha Kanglei Students' Union (AKKSU), Kakching organised a sit-in protest at Ibudhou Naohallai ground on Thursday over disruption of education due to non-resolution of the ongoing conflict in the state.
The sit-in participants, including students and their guardians, also conveyed sympathy and grief over the deceased and prayed for speedy recovery of those injured in unceasing attacks by Kuki narco-terrorists.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, AKKSU general Secretary Ksh National lamented that future of students of the state is bleak as the education sector is being affected first by outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic and presently by the communal conflict.
Noting that many students are among the village volunteers defending land and lives of the indigenous communities, the secretary opined that as the central forces stationed in Manipur have failed to live up to the people's expectation government authorities should review wisdom and purpose for their deployment in the state.
He also proposed that central and state governments frame and implement specific policy to guarantee students have access to undisturbed education.
Meanwhile, Kakching Apun-ba Nupi Lup convener N Kalpana criticised the government representatives of only giving lip service rather than initiating effective measures to resolve the conflict.
During the protest, the participants displayed placards inscribed with slogans for ensuring better future of students, proper education, implementation of NRC, revoke SoO agreement with Kuki narco-terrorists, remove central forces from the state, ensure peace and security of civilians, denouncing use of military drones in civilian area, announce Kuki militants as international terrorists for attacking Meetei civilians with drones, etc.
A memorandum demanding security of students and educational institutions, psychological support for violence-affected students, promotion of dialogue and peace-building initiatives, abrogation of SoO agreement, NRC implementation and punitive against those involved in drone bombing, was sent to Prime Minister and Union education minister.
