Many extend Ningol Chakkouba greetings, present gifts, host lunch

Manipur Governor La Ganesan and chief minister N Biren Singh led in extending warm greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba festival which will be celebrated on Saturday.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand Singh, Forest minister Awahgbow Newmai, Works minister Th Biswajit, Agriculture minister 6 Lukhoi, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution minister Th Satyabrata and Education minister S Rajen also extended greetings.
Ningol Chakkouba in one of the biggest festivals of Manipur which celebrates the unbreakable bond of love between brother and sister and which reinforce the parental care and affection for married daughters, they said in separate messages.
Similarly, Congress MLAs Gaikhangam Gangmei and AK Mirabai Devi, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi and CPI (M) Manipur State Council secretary Ksh Shanta also wished that the festival promotes unity, integrity and peaceful coexistence among all the communities of the state.
CSOs, political organisations and students bodies including Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) and MPDF Women Wing, Meitei Council Moreh (MCM) and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) extended Ningol Chakkouba greetings to the people of Manipur.
The CSOs also urged the public not to indulge in the rat-race of expensive gifts in the name of the festival.
They also appealed to the traders of the state to refrain from the unethical practices of selling commodities at unreasonable prices taking undue advantage of the festival.
Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen, MPP president A Krishnadas, Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK), International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) and MUSU also extended their greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of 'Ningol Chakkouba'.
In separate releases, the leaders and organisations wished the joyous occasion to bring peace, development and prosperity in the state.
The civil bodies also asked traders not to hike prices of essential commodities along with appealing to people to buy local products to benefit the state's artisans and farmers as well as to help in improving the local economy.
Meanwhile, in separate programmes, Lilong Youth Organisation (LYO), intending candidate of BJP from Lilong assembly constituency Anwar Husain and intending candidate from Singjamei AC Ngangbam Robert presented gifts to women of Lilong AC and Singjamei AC respectively for the 'Ningol Chakkouba'.
In another release, Celin Digital held publicity officer Ksh James Singh informed that Celin Digital producer Phanjoubam Lanajit Singh distributed face masks and hand sanitizers to 100 women coming to markets for purchasing goods for the 'Ningol Chakkouba' festival and also appealed to them to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour during the festival.
Similarly, in connection with the 'Ningol Chakkouba festival, agriculture minister O Lukhoi distributed pension along with monetary aid to widows of Wangoi AC during a programme held at Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangkong community hall on Friday.
Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited chairman Sagolsem Achouba provided gas connection under Ujjwala scheme to 60 families as well as monetary aid to 30 women weavers of Wangoi AC in a programme held at Wangoi Bazar community hall on Friday while former Andro MLA Th Shyamkumar hosted a lunch at Yairipok Angtha Chingkhong and presented gifts to elderly women of Andro AC in connection with the festival.
