Yairipok Khoirom holds women's meet on crimes

'Women's Meet', an interaction programme on the frequent crimes against women and children, organized by Manipur Nupi Marup, Yairipok Khoirom Nupi Marup and JAC against the killing of Lourembam Ranjita was held at Keithel macha at Yairipok Khoirom on Thursday.

Jamini Devi, former chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women graced the programme as chief guest, while local elder Ngangom Thamchet presided over the function.
.MSakhi, working president of All Manipur Nupi Marup and Y.Indrani, Secretary of Working Women Manipur were also present as guests of honour.
In her speech, M.Sakhi stated that atrocities and crimes against women have increased day by day.
To kill a mother of four children after rape is not a human behaviour, Sakhi said, while adding that the accused should not be protected under any circumstance.
Maintaining that the magnitude of drug abuse has also increased manifold among the young people, she said drug abuse and alcoholism have contributed to the increasing crimes against women in Manipur.
Saying the rapists deserve death penalty, Sakhi claimed that awarding death sentence to rapists would help decrease such crimes in future.
Sharing the grief of late Lourembam Ranjita's family, Y.Indrani assured that her organization would extend whole hearted support to movements for justice pertaining to Ranjita's murder case.
Co-convenor of the JAC against the killing of Lourembam Ranjita, H.Bimol claimed that Laishram Ibomcha, who has been accused of Ranjita's murder, was also involved in a number of criminal acts in the past.
Sheltering such a person in the locality is a danger for the people, he asserted.
