Watershed Yatra outreach campaign launched in Kakching

The nationwide Watershed Yatra Outreach Campaign, organised as part of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana - Watershed Development Component 2.0 (WDC-PMKSY 2.0), was launched at the Kakching DC's office complex, on Wednesday.
The campaign, organised by the State Level Nodal Agency (SLNA), Manipur (Watershed Management), was virtually inau gurated by union minister of rural development, agriculture & farmers' welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, through video conferencing.
The objective of "Watershed Yatra" is to generate people's participation and create awareness about the watershed development activities carried out under the watershed development component of PMKSY 2.0 in project areas.

Major activities under the campaign include Watershed Mahotsav, Shramdaan, Paani Ka Paathshala, and tree plantations.
The inauguration programme was attended by DC Rohit Anand and planning director N Kulkarni, who is also the CEO of SLNA (WM), along with Kakching SDO Kherdananda Potshangbam.
Addressing the gathering, DC Rohit highlighted that Kakching is primarily an agricultural society with majority of the population depend on farming for livelihood.
Highlighting the need for water conservation for the sustenance and prosperity of the district, he noted that various components of the programme, such as pond development and irrigation canal projects, require absolute dedication from society for successful implementation.
Expressing optimism, Rohit Anand stated that the initiative would help local farmers become self-sufficient and expand agricultural exports beyond the district and state.
He urged for collective efforts to make Kakching the best-performing district at both the state and national levels in implementing the scheme.
As part of the programme, the DC administered a pledge on Watershed Yatra to all attendees.
A rally carrying the message of water conservation was flagged off from the DC Complex, proceeding to Kakching Bazar and returning to the starting point.
Saplings and appreciation gifts were distributed to WC secretaries of project villages, while noted personalities in watershed and spring shed management were felicitated.
T-shirts were also distributed to all participants.
The event saw the presence of project officer, RD & PR Kakching, S Nabachandra, along with officials and project members from Serou, Tangjeng, Langmeidong, Waikhong Laimanai, Elangkhanpokpi, and Wangoo.
Meanwhile, the DC, in a public notice, announced the re-activation of Meeyamgi Numit (People's Day) on February 7, to facilitate residents in accessing various government schemes and essential documents.
The initiative aims to assist those facing difficulties in obtaining government identity documents such as health cards, ration cards, birth certificates, and old age pension.
Residents are encouraged to visit the office of the SDO, Kakching, or the office of the SDO, Waikhong.
The event will offer on-the-spot resolution of grievances, with officials from various government departments, including health, education, social welfare, PWD, municipal council, and BDO, available to assist citizens.
Rohit Anand urged residents to take advantage of this opportunity for hassle-free access to government services.
The event will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, with efforts made to address public grievances on the same day.
