Kangpokpi, November 04 2023:
Candlelight vigil, motivational speeches for displaced people and village volunteers, tribute to martyrs and mass prayers marked the sixth Remembrance Day of the ongoing violence, which completed sixth month on Friday.
In Kangpokpi district, the sixth Remembrance Day was observed at Kangpokpi town, Keithelmanbi, Saparmeina, Motbung, Kotlen, Leimakhong and Saikul under the aegis of Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi.
Speaking at the Kangpokpi town event, CoTU chairman Thanglen Kipgen held incumbent chief minister N Biren responsible for the ongoing wide-scale mayhem in Manipur.
He said that diverse communities of Manipur lived together peacefully during the tenure of many chief ministers in the past and this is why the state of Manipur is popularly known as 'Mini-India'.
However, when N Biren came to power and became the chief minister, seed of hatred among the peacefully coexisted diverse communities was sown and finally made the Mini-India state a hotbed of hatred, violence and atrocities disintegrating the hard earned unity, love and bonding of the diverse communities.
Now, the beautiful Mini-India has been split and separated into two entities under the regime N Biren with his nefariously designed mayhem that erupted on May 3, Thanglen Kipgen alleged.
According to Thanglen, like-minded individuals, intellectuals and well-wishers from the Meitei community are not happy with the mayhem and even alleged CM Biren behind the violence.
Responding to a query as to how the unrest in the state could end, the CoTU chairman said that Kuki-Zo people have no faith and confidence in the state government and hence the Centre is only authority to bring an end to the unceasing unrest.
The path to end the mayhem for the Centre is to implement separate administration for the Kuki-Zo people, averred the CoTU chairman.
Meanwhile, the 48-hour total shutdown imposed KSO and CoTU culminated at 6am Saturday with no report of untoward incident.
