Joy asked Centre to annul the 1974 pact

Imphal, November 03 2012: Manipur People's Party (MPP) stalwart O Joy today asked the Centre whether it could withdraw the agreement signed between the leaders of a Naga body and the Congress party in 1974 if the Government is really saying that the territorial integrity of Manipur will be protected.

Joy was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a poster campaign on Inner Line Permit launched at Bishnupur bazaar and Oinam bazaar in Bishnupur district.

The MPP has launched the campaign since October 24 supporting introduction of ILP system in Manipur.

Joy said that the recent remarks of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde totally violated the House privilege.

Shinde in his statement made on September 10 in New Delhi in connection with a Bill passed unanimously in the last session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly session demanding the introduction of ILP System in Manipur had said, "Our Constitution will not allow such things.

Any sensible person who believes in the Constitution will not pass such a bill" .

A memorandum has been submitted to the Speaker of Lok Sabha as well as Opposition leader in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to take action against the Union Home Minister for his statement, Joy informed.

Commenting on the scheduled visit of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to the State, Joy said the visit entirely aims on the peace parleys between the Centre and NSCN-IM and that the people cannot expect anything with regard to the territorial integrity of Manipur from the November 9 visit of the Home Minister.

He also declared that the poster campaign on ILP by MPP will continue in all the four valley districts of the State and asserted that the movement of the party on ILP does not mean to drive out outsiders from the State but it wants to let them stay under a proper regulation.

Saturday's poster campaign was carried out under the leadership of MPP president S Umakanta.

It was also took part by several leaders from MPP Youth Front.
