Training prog for fish farmers begins

Sponsored by ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal East under the aegis of Directorate of Extension Education of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal inaugurated a three-day training programme for fish farmers on "Grow-out Culture of minor carps and barbs" at the training hall of KVK, Andro on Monday.
Organised under the Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan (CSCP) scheme, the inaugural function was attended by Andro chief Sagolsem Chandra Meetei as chief guest, KVK, Imphal East senior scientist and head Dr Y Pravabati Devi as president, while CAU Imphal deputy directors Prof Dipak Nath and Prof Th Robindro Singh were guests of honour.
In his speech, Prof Dipak Nath said that the northeast region is a high bio-resource and fertile region, although the fish production is low and often imported, with Manipur too facing a similar situation.
As such, fish farmers need to implement scientific management in addition to rearing the fish in traditional method.
He then urged farmers to get acquainted on scientific knowledge and help in increasing the fish yield of the state.
Prof Th Robindro urged the participating farmers to attend the training programme actively, informing that the utilisation certificate and reports can be used to secure funds from funding agencies.
As part of the function, training manuals were distributed to the trainees.
