Imphal, May 02 2022:
Music is not just a leisure or entertainment activity but it also can be pursued as an academic career, said RK Panthoi, the first gold medallist of the state in MA Indian Classical (Violin).
Diamond Club Ayangpalli and Wangkhei Ayangpalli Leima Keithel Apunba Lup jointly organised a felicitation function for RK Panthoi, who won gold medal in MA Indian Classical (Violin) from Indira Kala Sangeet Viswa Vidyalaya, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, at the club's premises on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Panthoi maintained that apart from different professions like doctor and engineer, music also has vast scope as a career option and urged parents to sup port their children if they have passions and talents for music.
RK Panthoi said that she loved to play since her early childhood and her parents bought her a violin when she was studying in 7th standard.
However, her parents, who do not have any music background, did not think of providing her formal training.
After her graduation, she pursued six-year Visharad course on violin at Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal followed by Master's course at Indira Kala Sangeet Viswa Vidyalaya.
She is now pursuing PhD at the same university.
She got gold medal in the field as a result of her dedication for around 11 years, she said.
She then urged the government to introduce higher education course on different musical instruments at Manipur University and Manipur University of Culture so that younger generations of the state could pursue their career in this field.
MAPI Council president KC Romeo, Diamond Club president Toijam Saratku-mar and Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup Imphal East president Y Memma attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
