Imphal, January 02 2014:
Various community leaders based in Moreh had a joint meeting on December 31, 2013 at the office of Hill Tribal Council Moreh and discussed about the non-functioning of Social Welfare and PHED departments at the border town.
The meeting observed that the Social Welfare Department at Moreh, despite its inauguration on December 27, 2012 by Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai and promises made by the Minister during the inauguration, has been rendered useless with only one officer working in the office coupled with absence of necessary furniture and other facilities.
Jangmang Haokip, president of Hill Tribal Council Moreh said different communities in Moreh are yet to receive any facilities and developmental plans from the Social Welfare Department as it exists only in name.
He pointed out that the power of DDO power has not been given to the lone Social Welfare Officer till now, thereby, making the department paralyzed and added that the department will be no use at all if power of the DDO is not rested with the officer.
M Thoiba Singh, president of Meetei Council Moreh, noted that there are only two water reserve tanks in Moreh, one at Ward no 9 and the other at Ward no 1.He lamented that PHED has failed to provide safe drinking water to the people of Moreh for the last many years.
During the meeting, the community leaders pledged that water hand pumps will be constructed from Ward no 1-9 without waiting for government intervention.
Today's meet was also attended by representatives of Tamil Sangam Moreh, Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh and Tribal Council Moreh.
