Imphal, March 01 2024:
Extending support to the private member resolution moved by Phungyar MLA K Leishiyo for the House to readopt the decision to implement NRC in Manipur and urge the same to the central government, during Friday's sitting of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly; Keirao AC MLA Lourembam Rameshwor asked his MLA colleagues to check for any outsiders and who had taken over the land in their respective constituencies.
Informing that some people from Mizoram were found in his constituency, staying in the name of missionary work; Rameshwor continued that the missionaries were found staying with people from Myanmar, all of whom were in possession of Indian voter card and Aadhaar card, some even receiving NFSA rice.
If NRC had been implemented earlier, such situations would not have occurred.
In another part of his constituency, a tribal woman had taken over land and was in possession of the voter card and Aadhaar card of the area.
In a certain area of Imphal West, the wife of a Kuki militant leader had taken over 20 'pari' of paddy land.
All of the said lands have been renamed into Kuki names, as per reports.
Even if the outsiders' biometrics are recorded and all benefits denied, they will still try to live in the areas as long as they are permitted.
There is no doubt that external influences are involved in the prevailing conflict in the state.
There have been reports of Aadhaar cards generated easily in Moreh.
Thus, the indigenous population are now surrounded by outsiders from all sides, he remarked.
Urging the Naga brethren to also take the matter of outsiders seriously, he suggested formulating some kind of policy for the state to take up strict measures against influx of illegal outsiders before the House members take up a resolution to implement NRC in Manipur.
Previously, over 3000 indigenous were shot dead under the garb of insurgency, with around 1500 cases of fake encounter being heard in the courts, he stated.
The private member resolution also received support from minister Awangbow Newmai, Lilong AC MLA Md Abdul Nasir, Kshetrigao AC MLA Noorul Hassan, Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti and Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen, all of whom expressed the need for implementing NRC at the earliest.
