Imphal, October 31 2020:
The relay hunger strike launched by six student bodies viz, AIMS, AMSU, DESAM, MSF, KSA and SUK in demand of a comprehensive 'COVID-19 Counter Measures Policy' has entered 11th day today.
It may be noted that the strike was launched on October 21 against the laxity on the part of the Government in fighting the disease and the student bodies had put up a 12 point charter of demands to draw a new policy.
Somorjit Luwang, on the sideline of the hunger strike, said that the death toll due to the virus has risen to 164, 7200 cases were detected this month and the State is expected to record more than 10,000 cases.
Despite the impending threat and the damage the virus has done, the State Government is unmoved, he said.
If the State Government is unable to chalk out a comprehensive policy to effectively tackle the virus, the Health Minister should voluntarily resign from his post, he said.
