Need to review Merger Agreement: Lancha

While sharing his observation on the need for reviewing the Merger Agreement signed with the Union of India on September 21, 1949, cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha has called upon the people of the state to launch a united movement in this regard.
He made the remark at the Phambei Meefam held at Mayang Imphal Thana Maning Khunou Charoibung public ground on Sunday.
Mayai Yumpham Khuman Kanglei Apunba Itinfam organised the public meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Ningthouja Lancha informed the gathering that the Merger Agreement is about an agreement that transfer the administration of Manipur to the Union of India.
In case the Government of India cannot protect the territory and identity of Manipur, it is obvious for the people to raise the demand for pre-merger status for which unity of the people is paramount, he said.
Lancha also stressed the need for preventing uncontrolled influx of illegal immigrants into the state, which not only threatens the social fabric of the state but also threatens the future.
The Central government should understand the implications posed by these elements and take up proactive measures to flush them out.
In case, the Central government fails to protect the state from the illegal immigrants, it is up to the people of the state to decide the way forward to protect the state and its identity, he added.
The public meeting was joined by several Meira Paibi members of the nearby areas.
Floral tributes were also paid to the portraits of those, who made sacrifices while protecting the territory and identity of Manipur.
