Imphal, February 29 2024:
Stating that it is not the time to fight amongst ourselves when armed Kuki narco-terrorists are attacking Meetei civilians and scheming to destroy the emotional and territorial integrity of Manipur, Taragi Cheisu has appealed to the people to unite and fight for preventing balkanisation of the state.
Addressing media persons at its Khurai Ahongei office, here, on Thursday, Taragi Cheisu chairperson Khaidem Mani said that the act of assaulting Imphal East additional SP by some armed miscreants and vandalising his house at Wangkhei is uncalled for.
It is also disheartening that such incidents occurred among ourselves at a time when Kuki militants continue to attack the Meeteis with the ultimate aim to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur, he said, while adding that assault of the police officer infuriated the state's security personnel as could be comprehended from police commandos resorting to arms down protest.
While opining that such unwanted incidents could have occurred due to misunderstanding, Mani advised the government to take up steps to control the situation and deescalate tension so as to showcase its presence in the state.
Maintaining that the voices of the people also need to be heard, Khaidem Mani further said the accusation of the public towards the central forces also has valid points.
There is not a single incident where leaders of armed Kuki militants have been arrested by the police along with arms.
However, one gets arrested in the valley on charges of looting arms without any solid proof.
Such discriminating acts should be stopped.
If at all one has to be arrested, he/she has to be arrested based on proofs and evidences, he explained.
Clarifying that Taragi Cheisu is not in favour of any side, he said that we need to be strong and save Manipur from disintegration.
We should stop fighting amongst ourselves and resolve all differences amicably, Mani stressed.
