Seven more held, unconditional release demanded

Kakching police rounded up seven protestors who were demanding release of four persons arrested on the charge of vandalising the residence of Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar on November 16 while agitating over the killings of six civilians by Kuki militants.
According to the police, on November 27 evening, protests erupted in Kakching, with demonstrators calling for the release of four arrested individuals, which resulted in injuries to three individuals, including a VDF personnel.
Consequently, the seven individuals were arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
The seven have been identified as Naorem Jotish Singh (30) s/o Nabakeshor Singh of Kakching Chumnang Leikai, Kshetrimayum Rajiv Singh (50) s/o Ksh Chaoba Singh of Moirangthem Leikai, Pravin Leishangthem (31) s/o (L) L Ibomcha Singh of Lamdong, Pukhrambam Gopen (32) s/o P Gopal Singh of Wairi Senapati Leikai, Naorem Sitaljit Singh (33) s/o (L) N Godador Singh of Wairi Khullakpam Leikai, Wayenbam Johnson Singh (31) s/o (L) W Joyku-mar Singh of Paji Leikai, and Kshetrimayum Ashokumar (30) s/o Ksh Modhuchandra Singh of Sumak Leikai.
They were produced before the court of CJM Thoubal, which remanded them to six days in police custody.
The four arrested earlier are Mayanglambam Harison Singh (28) s/o M Sanakhomba of Irum Makha Leikai, Yengkhom Chandrasekhar Singh (53) s/o (L) Y Khelendro of khunyai Leikai Indrani Hall Pareng, Wahengbam Samson Singh (33) s/o (L) W Manglem of Huikap Mayai Leikai currently residing near Kakching Wairi KMC, and Kshetrimayum Raj Singh (20) s/o Ksh Pradip kumar of Moirangthem Leikai.
All are in judicial custody.
On the other hand, a sit-in was staged at the premises of Kakching Bazar Ibudhou Naohanlai on Friday demanding the unconditional release of Kakching village volunteers and civilians arrested by police.
During the sit-in, the protestors held placards inscribed with the slogans, "Release the arrested people without any conditions", "Release arrested village volunteers", "We want peace", and "No arrests of village volunteers in future".
Meanwhile, demanding unconditional release of arrested protestors, including Meira Paibi activists, who were detained for allegedly vandal ising legislators' residences during a mass protest against the killing of women and children in Jiribam, Keishamthong Apunba Nupi Leishem Lup warned of intense mass protests if the government ignores public sentiment.
Speaking to media persons at Anouba Mandop, Thouda Bhabok Leikai on Friday, Lup president Soraisam Shanti Leima reasoned that the mass protest was launched against the abduction and merciless killing of women and children including an eight months old baby in Jiribam.
Enraged by the news about the killing of innocent civilians, the protestors attacked the residences of MLA and ministers.
"It is unfortunate that instead of arresting the perpetrators of the brutal killing of women and children, the protesters, including Meira Paibi activist Thingbaijam Sushila, were arrested," she condemned, while reiterating the demand for unconditional release of the protestors.
Shanti further urged the government to also look into the missing of one Laishram Kamalbabu and ensure his safe return at the earliest.
Moreover, the government should take action against Kuki MLA Paolienlal Haokip for his statement that the abduction and killing of women and children was a revengeful act, she added.
