Governor consoles, JAC serves deadline

Imphal, September 29 2023: Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited the families of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit and consoled the parents of the two students who went missing since July 6 but are presumed killed after their photos surfaced on social media on September 25 .

The Governor also consoled mothers of the two students and gave water to both of them who were on fast for the past many days.

While meeting the families, Governor Anusuiya Uikey shared her condolences and pain and sorrow of both the families.

Consoling the families, the Governor said she understands sentiments of the people and informed the families that the CBI has already initiated a high level enquiry and assured that action will be taken against the perpetrators as per the law.

When informed by the locals on extensive use of force by security personnel towards the students in recent agitations against the killing, the Governor shared her grief for all the injured students.

While briefing the media, the Governor appealed to all the parents to advise students for staging peaceful forms of agitation and not to take law in their hands as injuries from such agitations will have a lasting impact on their future.

Meanwhile, former minister Ak Mirabai Devi along with eight members of the JAC and relatives of the two families met Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan.

The team sought immediate intervention of the Governor towards retrieving the bodies of the two students and to nab culprits involved in the crime within 24 hours.

The team also informed the Governor about use of excessive force by security personnel towards students during agitation against the killing of two youths.

The Governor, while informing about the CBI enquiry being initiated already, disclosed that she has instructed security advisor Kuldiep Singh to expedite the investigation in this regard.

Later in the evening, the Governor along with Ak Mirabai visited the injured students at Shija Hospital, Langol and handed over some financial assistance.

She wished them speedy recovery and assured required medical assistance.
