Imphal, August 28 2022:
The first Dubai Imphal Business Summit 2022 was jointly organised by ADECO Technologies LLC Dubai and Tomthin Group Imphal at Hotel Classic Grande, here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Classic Group of Hotels chairman cum managing director Dr Dhabali Thangjam observed that Manipur is not a popular state among the countries, including the neighbouring countries despite being known for its sporting talents and rich art & culture.
At the same time, foreigners see Manipur as a security risk with reports of extortion and violence making headlines.
However, incidents of extortion and violence have reduced significantly in the last decade and it is time for the people of the state join hands in building a better image of Manipur to attract tourists as well as investors in order to bring development and economic growth in the state, he said.
Policy makers also need to study economy model and activities of other states or countries and adopt suitable policies in order to boost the state's economy while tapping the huge but unutilised potentials that the state has.
Eco-tourism is one of the potential economy boosters of the state and yet the state has not been able to tap this potential properly unlike Sikkim, which is considered a tourism hotspot in-spite of being a landlocked state like Manipur.
As such he noted that with vast natural resources, and rich heritage and culture, Manipur is like a sleeping giant in the field of tourism, which needs to be explored.
On the other hand, Dubai is one of the biggest tourism hubs of the world.
It would not be wrong to call Dubai as a paradise on earth.
It is the economy and political will of the government that brought development in Dubai.
The state can adopt their model and work with private sectors to improve road transport and export local products in the international market.
There are several educated and potential youth in the state.
Unfortunately, many of them are simply waiting for white collar jobs instead of focusing on becoming entrepreneurs and they need to give up this mindset.
At the same time, the state can outsource its human resources.
Nurses from Kerala are known for their good hospitality, service and patient care.
Today, Manipuri nurses are competing with them in the health sector.
There are thousands of unemployed trained nurses in the state and providing them job placement in foreign countries could also help in boosting economy as well as attracting more tourists, he added.
ADECO Technologies LLC Dubai, UAE representative Ranjith Janardhanan, who attended the summit, said that Manipur has huge tourism potential.
Adeco Technologies LLC is operating in Middle East, South East Asia and Africa.
The company is expanding its presence in Manipur with the objective to explore the tourism potentials of the state, and support the state government in promoting tourism in the state with its international expertise.
Apart from tourism promotion, his company is looking forward to enhance skills of the youth of the state as well as providing support in export of organic products, he added.
Tomthin Group Imphal representative Md Faroo-que, Federal Sourcing Dubai representative Ajith Kumar, Public Hospital and Research Institute managing director Md Tajuddin and Iqra Distance Education, Training and Research Institute Manipur representative Md Sultan Ahamed Khan alias Amir Khan also attended the summit.
