Imphal, March 27 2019: The Meitei Pangal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee has claimed that the committee's demand for the inclusion of Meitei Pangals in the ST list is an attempt to safeguard and protect the future of the community.

Speaking to media persons at Hatta today, the committee' s convenor Islam Makakcha narrated that Meitei Pangal Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee was founded in 2014 and added that a meeting was held yesterday and a chairman, vice chairman and convenor were elected.

He then conveyed that the committee's demand for inclusion of the Meitei Pangals in the ST list is not aimed at inconveniencing any other community living in the State but is only aimed at safeguarding the Constitutional rights of the Meitei Pangal community.

If the Meitei Pangals are left behind in the development race, Manipur cannot become properly developed, he claimed, adding that the committee will meet the Governor at the earliest in connection with its demand.
