While expressing strong exception to heavy deployment of security in Ukhrul town, the village chiefs of Hunphun and Hungpung have appealed to the district administration to lift the promulgation of section 144 under CrPC Act.
In a representation submitted to Ukhrul deputy commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind on Friday, the two chiefs ASW Peter of Hungpung and HA Wungrampan of Hunphun village urged for immediate lifting of promulgation of section 144 under CrPC act in and around the town.
Expressing serious concern over heavy deployment of security forces and imposition of prohibitory order in the town, the two chiefs stated the situation has hampered seasonal customary festivities and created apprehensive atmosphere among the civilians.
The joint representation also iterated that "the killing (of ADC member) has been condemned by the public; it is clear that our people are against wanton killing" .
Further, the chiefs asserted "that as headmen, according to our customs and traditions, any decisions relating to the security and safety of the people within our jurisdictions has to be made in consultation with us" .
