Imphal, June 25 2022:
Manipur Loumi Lup has demanded authority concerned to reveal the true origin of the 600 bags of fertilisers which were seized by a team of police from Churachandpur.
In a release issued by its secretary, Manipur Loumi Lup recalled that on June 23, a special team of Manipur Police seized around 600 bags of fertilisers, which were to be smuggled through Sangaikot to Myanmar.
Agriculture minister Th Biswajit denied any linkage of the seized feritliser bags with the department to the media, which is not believable.
Previously, around 400 bags were seized in Kakching but the details of the case are yet to be made public.
Additionally, it is more shocking to learn of three youths from Tuning village of Churachandpur allegedly purchasing the 600 bags of urea from one fertiliser dealer Thokchom Bidur of Thinungei, Bishnupur district, as was published in the local dailies.
It is questionable how and where the bags of fertilisers could have been procured when the farmers are facing shortage and non-availability of the same, although the rains are falling regularly.
Demanding for a high-level committee to investigate the matter, the Loumi Lup further urged for having the Anti-Vigilance department to look into the matter, especially in the light of the contradictory statements given by the Agriculture minister with regard to the seized 600 bags of fertilisers.
The details the investigation including the real origin of the fertilisers should be made public, the Lup asserted.
