Bridge over Tuivai river unfit for heavy vehicles

The bridge constructed over the Tuivai River, which runs along the Manipur and Mizoram border, is in a di-lapidated condition and on the brink of collapse.
According to reports re-ceived here, the concrete foun-dation of bridge has collapsed and the structure tilted precar-iously.
Although the bridge is being repaired by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation, it could collapse anytime if rainfall continues and water level of the river rises.
Though the authority con-cerned has notified that trucks carrying loads in excess of 20 tonnes should not take the bridge, overloaded trucks con-tinue to use the same which could lead to total disaster, the report added.
