Weapons recovered, UGs held, poppies destroyed

Imphal, January 23 2025:
Security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both hill and valley districts over the past 24 hours, leading to recovery of arms and ammunition as well as arrest of U.G cadres.
According to a press release issued by the Police Control Room, a joint search operation in the forest areas adjoining Zairawl and Uchathol under Jiribam Police Station in Jiribam district resulted in the recovery of a Submachine Gun (SMG) Carbine with magazine, 12 Bore Single Barrel Gun, 60 rounds of ammunition, five UBGL rounds, and two grenades.
In another operation at Wabagai Buffalo Farm in Kakching district, security forces seized an air gun rifle, two HE grenades without detonators, two live 51mm HE shells, ten 7.62mm rounds, 15 AK rifle casings, four stun shells, two bulletproof plates, and one bulletproof vest.
Further, in Phungei Ching, Ngamukhong, under Nongpok Sekmai PS in Thoubal district, security forces recovered one each single bore gun, country-made pistol with magazine, 9mm pistol magazine, radio set (Baofeng), anti-riot grenade, stun shell, ten 36 HE hand grenades, 50 blank .303 rounds, 36 rounds of ammunition, and 45 casings.
The operations also led to the arrest of two active members of the proscribed KCP (PWG) from Uningkhong under Khongjom PS in Thoubal district.
The arrested individuals, identified as Thokchom Luxmikanta Singh alias Hapu (28) and Dinesh Thokchom alias Don (23), were reportedly involved in extortion activities.
Recovering from the duo included two 9mm pistols with magazines, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, three mobile handsets, Rs 10,000 in cash, and a four-wheeler.
In another operation, a combined team of Churachandpur district police, divisional forest officer of Churachandpur, and central security forces destroyed approximately 12 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Siden Changpikot area of Dampi reserve forest under Sangaikot PS.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, police arrested an active cadre of the proscribed KYKL, identified as Maibam Bronson Singh alias Thambou alias Ngamba (24), from Langol Type III area under Lamphel PS in Imphal West district.
The arrested individual, who was involved in extortion activities targeting the general public and shops, was found in possession of a mobile handset with a SIM card, a driving license, and a two-wheeler, the press release said.
