Imphal, November 20 2021:
Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan has said that Government of India is putting in efforts to improve relation with neighbouring countries with the main objective to fully implement the Act East Policy.
Dr RK Ranjan disclosed this during releasing function of a book entitled 'Act East Policy, Free Trade Agreement & Economic Growth Potential of India' written by Bishwanjit Loitongbam at the court hall of vice chancellor of Manipur University on Saturday.
Attending as chief guest of the book releasing event organised by Department of South East Asian Studies of MU, RK Ranjan said that the Union government is giving priority on security and economic growth by keeping good relation with neighbouring countries as part of its foreign policy.
With the coming of Act East Policy, Manipur should grab the opportunity to improve economy by exporting goods rather than merely thinking about importing goods from outside.
According to RK Ranjan, government of India is trying to establish around 100 schools in Myanmar apart from maintaining good relation with Vietnam, China and other countries particularly in education sector after these nations wanted to revive ancient universities like Nalanda University in Bihar.
Though activities and programmes under Act East Policy remain halted due to ongoing political conflict in Myanmar, people of the state need to take up preparation in advance to grab opportunity under the Policy, he added.
Disheartened over missing of Manipur University from the list of 200 best universities of India, Dr RK Ranjan said that National Education Policy 2020 has provision for upgrading best universities of the country to the global level and hence Manipur University needs to improve to grab opportunity.
The book releasing function was also attended by MU department of economics head professor Ch Priyoranjan, retired IAS officer Dr Rk Nimai, department of South East Asian Studies, Manipur University head professor H Sudhirkumar Singh and Manipur University VC in charge professor SK Srivastava.
